With a continuous progress of the economic system and the educational system in China, as well as a transition of the higher education from an elite-oriented education to a popularized education, great changes have taken place in the employment of university graduates. The employment of university graduates has grown to be an issue that draws a wide attention from the government, the universities, and the public in China. Judging from a comprehensive perspective, including all influential factors and the assessment indicators, the employability has become a focus that attracts more attention from the academic circle and the practical field, as it pays full attention to the trend of the personal development and the social growth in the future, which enables it to better the analysis of the employment issue of university graduates from a dynamic and developmental perspective.This paper starts from the perspective of the employability, applies a combined analytical method of being dynamic and static, qualitative and quantitative, parallel and comparative in terms of the corresponding studies at abroad, etc., and furthers the study of the employment status and strategies of the university graduates. The author, through a summary of the literatures concerning the employability, elaborates the relationship between the employability and the promotion for the employment, and builds up a model for the analysis of employment issues based on the employability. Thereafter, with a combination of this model, surveys and assessments on the employability of university graduates are carried out. Finally, by studying on the development of the employability, and by learning from the experience of the universities, employers and governments at abroad, as far as the current problems concerned, the author proposes the strategies and suggestions on how to develop the employability.Chapter One introduces the background and significance of this study. It is pointed out that the employability, selected to be studied in this paper, boasts a vital significance under the current situations. In addition, this chapter decides the study object of this paper, gives evidence to this selection, introduces the ways of thinking, contents, methods, features, and the sources of the research, and finally reviews the literatures on this issue at home and abroad.Chapter Two introduces the research findings relevant to the employability. It combines such theories as The Structure of the Employment Capabilities, Capability Model, Career Development Theory, Career Dynamics, and Career Theory, etc., summarizes the research perspective of the employability of university graduates, elaborates the relationship between the employability and the employment of the university graduates, and designs the model for the employment analysis based on the employable capabilities.Chapter Three analyzes the components of the employability of the university graduates in Shanghai. Based on the surveys and studies, the assessments are made on the employment status of the university graduates in Shanghai and their employability. Moreover, more efforts are exerted on the analysis of the reasons for the weakness of their employability.Chapter Four introduces the ways to develop the employability of the university graduates, followed by the policies and measures adopted by foreign universities, employers, and governments to enhance the employability of the university graduates and thus to promote their employment. On the basis of the above points, and in light of the outstanding problems in the current employment of the university graduates , the corresponding strategies and suggestions are proposed which are applicable to the national situations of our country and Shanghai features as well.
