With the transformation of our national strategy, the transformation of social structure is accelerating, and reforms in the economic system and education system are continuously intensifying. As a result, the change of higher education from elite education to mass education is gradually advancing. High-end labor force, which is formed on the basis of long-term investment on human capital, that is, university graduates, will become the core force to realize the Chinese dream and to build a beautiful China. In recent years, China’s economy maintains a rapid growth despite the economic malaise in the world. However, the employment does not go well abreast with the development of economy; instead, showing a downward trend, especially in the increasingly complex and severe employment situation for college graduates. Difficulty in the employment of college graduates and the employment of students who graduate being unemployed, are matters of great concern to the government, schools, and society. Meanwhile, they are also urgent matters which need to be confronted and solved to achieve social stability and sustainable economic development in China.Employability is an important indicator of European countries to evaluate the training effectiveness of professional education institutions. Deficiency of employability skills greatly affects the employment of Chinese college graduates. Therefore, strengthening the research on, and improving the employability of college students, are important measures to overcome difficulties in the employment of college graduates. However, researches on the employability of college students in China are still in the early stages (especially for those students who graduate being unemployed), and have not formed a research system. In this context, the present study randomly selected13colleges and universities in Shandong Province, and distributed questionnaires to students who are due to graduate in2013through the college career centers. In this study, a total of2600questionnaires were distributed, and2090were returned, with a recovery rate of80.38%. This research was conducted by such means as data collection and analysis, questionnaires, and interviews, and by the employment of integrated knowledge of management science, economics, sociology, psychology and many other disciplines. Through the researches on the relation between employability among college graduates in Shandong Province and their initial employment options, this research reflects on concerned issues of employment of college graduates from the perspective of employability to explore the distinction of employability among college graduates in Shandong Province between the employed and unemployed, and the distinction of employability among graduates with different employment posts and different means to get employment information. Meanwhile, the present research studies the employability skills of students who graduate being unemployed, and investigate the reasons for their unemployment. Based on the research results, this article formulates targeted employability development mechanism for university students, and makes relevant countermeasures and suggestions, thus providing guidelines for colleges on their employment guidance and career education for college students.
