Non-directive teaching is a kind of Chinese reading teaching method purposed by Mr. Zheng Yinong in 2000 who is a teacher from Jiangshan middle school, Zhejiang province. Its characteristics are two NOTs and four SELFs: the teacher will not tell learning targets and will not give the answers to the questions directly; the students are supposed to sense with their own hearts, to judge by their own criterion, to innovate with their own thoughts, to express in their own words. Later, non-directive teaching was developed into a educational concept, ie: to regard people as human .This concept contains three layers of meaning: first, the teacher and students are equal; second, they conmunicate sincerely; third, the students should get self-determined development. Non-directive teaching was tried in different subjects such as mathematics in elementary, geography in middle school and music enjoyment class in junior middle shool besides Chinese reading in middle school. All of the above indicates phase achivement had been attained.The educational concept of non-directive teaching is consistent with the one from curriculum reform of foundation education enacted in 2001. As a result, it became one of detailed teaching methods which matched the spirit of new curriculum reform. Therefore, non-directive teaching had been further discussed and studied and caused bigger echo.This paper explored non-directive teaching and its concept from humanistic corner and discussed its promoting machanism to self-regulated learning...
