Geography textbook in middle school has changed many times. Along with a new round of curriculum reform, the writing of textbooks in our country has been experiencing a diversified trend under the requirement of modernization of textbooks. Geography Curriculum Standard for Full-time Compulsory Education was issued by the Ministry of National Education in July, 2001. Corresponding with the Standard, the Ministry of National Education has approved four sets of new geography textbooks for Middle School Curriculum. The common feature of the new geography textbooks is strengthening the"activities".The research object of this text is the column of"activity"in Geography book. In this paper the meaning of"activity"is defined, and also expatiate the sort, the implementation and the education function of"activity". Because the aim of this paper is inquiry"activity", so there is some discuss about inquiry.The aim of this paper is spot checking the trend of Geography teacher's selection on the column of"activity"in Geography textbook. In this paper the"activity"is divided to five types: A. the activity for expatiating; B. the activity for handling; C. the activity for distilling information; D. the activity for knowledge transferring; E. the activity for practicing. After the investigation, we find results as follows: 1.In teacher's opinion, the effect of these five kinds of"activity"in students'study is different, the most important one is the activity for practicing, then the activity for drilling information, then the activity for handling, then the activity for knowledge transferring, and the last one is the activity for expatiating. 2. In the actual teaching process, there are differences in hour arrange of activity. Teachers spend most in activity for drilling information, then the kind of activity for practicing, then the kind of activity for knowledge transferring, then the kind of expatiating, and the last one is the kind for practicing. 3. There are differences between the sequences of activity in teachers'opinion and the actual incline in their teaching process. 4. The proportion of these five kinds of inquiring activity in the textbook should be adjusted. 5. There should be more activities that could trigger students'interest. 6. Ministry of education should properly increase the teaching hours of geography. At the same time, teachers should use the teaching hours in reason.
