During the 1980s, the American international competitive power fell increasingly. The public was seriously unsatisfied with educational actuality, and they were keen to reform it, so a specialization movement which took the development of teacher's major as the kernel of the matter, was started. PDS was just a new pattern of running school that co-operated by university and middle school and primary school under the background. PDS was set up by Educational College and one or more middle schools and primary schools. It was a school style that synchronized the training before teaching, on-job training and school reforming together. Its order was to supply demonstrating education for ones who didn't have teaching experience; developing major education for on-job teachers; opportunities of cooperating and researching between the two kinds of schools. PDS put forward a series of educational reforming new thoughts. This was widely held by the American educational business. So it became a trend in American teaching reform.The essay introduces the background, processing history, teaching mode and implemental effect. It makes a theoretical analysis and discussion, and makes a further propose of the teaching education mode referring to the experience of the PDS. PDS endows a new character and function for the Professional Development of the primary & middle schools. It makes an attempt of the Professional Development approach actively,. Moreover, it promotes the American educational reform. The Chinese government should refer to the experience of the American PDS, making the corresponding policy to encourage and instruct the correspondent teachers'Professional Development approach.First of all, the essay expounds the background and the processing history of the Professional Development School in the U.S. Secondly; it introduces the teaching mode of the teachers in the Professional Development School in the U.S. After that, it makes an analysis and discussion of the achievement and problems. Although the Professional Development School had reached a great achievement, pushing the Professional Development of the pre-profession and job training of teachers effectively, polishing up the relationship between teachers training institutes (universities and educational academies) and primary & middle schools, improving the academic achievement of the students in the primary& middle schools. But it also has been facing many problems such as the lack of time, the level difference, the target conflict, financial shortage, the organizational disorder. Finally, the essay analyzes the enlightenment which was obtained from the education of the Professional Development School in the U.S.The essay makes a profound analysis of the theory of PDS with the basic educational theory in the view of the Professional Development. It analyzes the original research product with the documental investigating approach. Meanwhile, assisting with the historical approach and factor analyzing approach, the essay made an effort to reflect the working mode of the Professional Development School. It comments the characteristics and achievement, expecting to make some experience and suggestions for our nation's education.
