In the background of globalization, different culture is inevitable to be mutually infiltrated, probably causing cultural recession, probably not conducive to maintain the sense of identity and belonging to national culture. As the key front of spreading culture, education needs to respond to these problems, and courses, as the factor direct impacting on what students learn and what teachers teach, should be the first front. Hirsch, a famous educator in America, has undertaken a number of meaningful research and exploration in education practice as to the disorder of value system because of cultural conflicts at the end of the 1960s and the early of 1970s, which may give us some inspirations.This thesis is divided into four parts:The first part describes and analyzes the definition, characteristics, mechanism of psychology, then indicates the importance of cultural literacy in the background of cultural diversity in America to ensure the efficiency of the communication, strengthening social cohesion and promoting social equity.In the second part, through the introduction of the definition, theory of knowledge, theory of teacher, background and the effect, the thesis shows that the curriculum of core knowledge is a reform movement of curriculum that can enhance people's cultural literacy.The third part comments on Hirsch as a great educator whose education reform practice is significant to social cohesion of multi-national country according to the evaluation from the pros and cons as well as Hirsch himself.Tne forth part compares our national curriculum with American core knowledge curriculum and gets inspirations to curriculum reform, in particular national curriculum from the theory and practice of Hirsch.The innovation of this paper is the expatiation and analysis of the psychology mechanism of cultural literacy. It combines related research of cognitive psychology, discussing that only individual's cultural literacy be improved can people get fully communication.
