Research On The Quality Of American Basic Education Based On Core Knowledge Movement

Eric Donald Hirsch(Eric Donald Hirsch,Jr.)is the emeritus professor of Virginia State University.He is also a famous educator,literary critics,author,and education reformers.The core knowledge movement that Hirsch launches into is considered to be the successful model of American folk elementary education curriculum reform,which improves the quality of basic education in the United States.Hirsch’s education and work experience have made him have a unique view on the education quality problems that have existed in the United States for many years.In his core knowledge movement,he emphasized the importance of core knowledge and cultural literacy in improving students’ academic performance and adapting to the American public sphere.In this paper,Hirsch is introduced by means of literature analysis and comparative study,and the historical background,theoretical basis and practical contents of the core knowledge movement are also summarized.At the same time,on the basis of summarizing the quality problems of basic education in American curriculum,teachers,schools,management,standards and evaluation,combined with the education theory and reform practice of the core knowledge movement,this paper analyzes the quality problems of basic education in the United States,and discusses the problems,causes and Countermeasures of American basic education quality in three aspects from the perspective of core knowledge movement: curriculum and teachers,school and management,standard and evaluation.At last,it explores the enlightenment of core knowledge movement’s theory and educational reform practice in the United States on China’s basic education reform.Although there are different opinions on Hirsch and the core knowledge movement,the effectiveness of the core knowledge movement in improving the quality of basic education in the United States has been widely recognized.Its emphasis on the value of knowledge education and the construction of education system have certain reference significance for promoting the of education quality and equity in China.
