Education equity is the common goal of education development all over the world,and it is also an important means to promote social equity.From the perspective of core knowledge movement,this thesis uses literature analysis,comparative research and text analysis to study the effect of the core knowledge movement on the equity of basic education in the United States.There are four chapters in this thesis.The first chapter briefly introduces the life and educational writings of Eric Donald Hirsch who is the founder of the core knowledge movement,and details the background,theoretical basis and main content of the core knowledge movement.The second chapter discusses and analyzes the equity of basic education in American and its causes from three aspects: educational opportunity education process and educational results.The federal government of the Unite States is trying to guarantee the fairness of basic education by enacting education policies,but the implementation effect of the policies is not good.The third chapter mainly analyzes the causes and countermeasures of basic education equity in American from the perspective of core knowledge.Hirsch believes that the causes of problem of equity in basic education in the United States lie in the following aspects.In terms of the starting point of education,the differences between the language environment and preschool education before students enter the primary school that lead to the great differences in language skills among students.In terms of process of education,teachers’ teaching strategies are biased,and there is a phenomenon that emphasizes reading skills rather than knowledge.In terms of result of education,the content of the test is not set based on the knowledge of the course,resulting in students’ academic performance has declined.Hirsch believes that core knowledge is not only a countermeasure to promote education equity,but also a way to fight against social determinism.The fourth chapter tries to analyze the influence of core knowledge movement on the equity of basic education in America,and seek the enlightenment to improve the quality of basic education and promote the equity of basic education in China.
