Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the time management disposition (TMD) of freshmen in Normal University at present, probe into the relevant factors and find out the inherent relationship among the factors. Suggest some measures to improve the TMD. Explore feasible statistical technique and the methodological guidance; we hope it would provide some useful information on the methodology in the similar research. Methods: The relevant information about TMD was collected through the questionnaire survey in some of the freshmen in Zhangzhou Normal University. The data was analyzed by multiple stepwise regression analysis (MSRA), principal component regression analysis (PCRA), factor analysis (FA), canonical correlation analysis (CCA), structural equation model (SEM) and so on.Results: The freshmen were asked to finish the questionnaire papers in class. A total of 629 questionnaires were effective. MSRA showed: internality(I), motive of achieve success(Ms), psychoticism(P) and neuroticism(N) were important factors of Time Valuable Concept; I, Ms, motive of avoid failure (Mf) and powerful others(P2) were factors of Time Monitoring Concept; Ms, I, P, Mf, and N were factors of Time Efficiency Concept; Ms, I, Mf and P were factors of total TMD. PCRA, FA, CCA also showed that achievement motive, locus of control and personality characteristic were factors of TMD. And SEM showed: achievement motive, locus of control was direct factors of TMD, the index of path was 0.79, 0.19 respectively; P,N, extroversion(E) was indirect factors of TMD, the index of path was -0.16, -0.10, 0.20 respectively. Conclusions: (1)Achieve motive, locus of control and personality characteristic are factors of TMD of freshmen in Zhangzhou Normal University. According to the results some measures about how to improve the Time Management Disposition were provided. (2) Some of the traditional statistical methods such as MSRA, PCRA have the shortcoming in dealing with the multiple dependent variables. SEM is used to handle such problem and describe the relationship among the factors clearly.
