Han dynasty, a period of Grand Unification that has received great social development, is also an originating and forming period of family education in feudal society. Emperor Han Wudi implements the policy of "Paying Supreme Tribute to Confucianism while Banning All Other Schools of Thought", establishing the Confucianism-oriented ruling thought, bringing the effect that the cultural knowledge, which takes Confucianism as the chief principle , is generally emphasized. Scholar-officials, positioned at the top of four kinds of people, have obtained obvious advantages in the political position, economic foundation and cultural knowledge, gradually taking the leading part in the family education. As the main successor of cultural knowledge, scholar-officials are deeply influenced by the Confucianism culture, with a characteristic followed that their family education begins to demonstrate Confucianism, making "self-cultivation, putting the family in order, running the government well, and bringing peace to the entire country" the basic mode of family education, gradually shaping the traditional family education of "stressing morals, teaching knowledge and pursuing official career". No matter at educational content or in education form, family education by scholar-officials of Han dynasty has obtained enormous development, among which exists no lack of some quintessence, becoming the precious wealth in the cultural treasure-house of our country, possessing important reference value and realistic meaning until now. The present study, by historically looking into the basic content and principal mode of family education by scholar-officials of Han dynasty, deeply analyzes the reason of its development and its characteristics, objectively discusses its influence and limitations and probes into the modern value of family education by scholar-officials of Han dynasty, attempting to reach the aim of historical research of "make the past serve the present".
