In recent years, the research of mass media and rural social development has been paid extensive attention in academic circles. Many scholars have done research work on this subject from the view of communication and sociology. However, the study, which is on rural culture change in the environment of TV communication, has been rather limited from the perspective of ethnology. It can be said that this is a new domain in research of ethnology. On the base of the research outcomes of predecessors, the thesis mainly used the knowledge of anthropology and communications, and took Shemihu Village in Laifeng county as an example to make an empirical study on the lifestyle change caused by TV communication in Tujia countryside, combining the fieldwork and literature study. In addition to the introduction, the full text was divided into three chapters: the first chapter introduced the general situation of Shemihu Village and stated the development course and communication condition of TV, giving the base for the latter parts; the second chapter made a description as Ethnography of lifestyle change caused by TV communication in Tujia countryside from four aspects, including family life, leisure life, consumption life and social intercourse; the third chapter paid emphasis on analysing the important role which TV played in the rural lifestyle change. The writer thought that TV strengthened ties between the village and the outside world, influenced the villagers' consumption behavior, promoted them to recognise and accept the Pop culture, promoted them to change their traditional values and the way of leisure, facilitated the reconstruction of interpersonal relationships in the village. At the same time, TV accelerated Tujia traditional culture to die down gradually. In short, TV, as the main body of modern media, has become a great impetus to promote the rural lifestyle change.
