Thinking style, as an important individual differences variable, refers to the way that the individual prefers and habitualizes in the process of thinking. Once this concept was put forward, it has been paid unprecedented attention by researchers immediately. And some theories have been formed in researches, among which Sternberg's thinking style theory of mental self-management theory is the most prominent one. After this concept and theory being proposed, researchers have done many empirical researches on it. In the researches on students' thinking style, most researches chose ordinary college students and high school students as research objects. Yet few researches on thinking style aiming at the art college students have been done so far. Art college students are a special group of college students. Therefore the researches on thinking style aiming at them must enrich the whole theory of thinking style and help to promote the education and management of art college students as well.The participants in this study were 300 art college students studying at Shandong Art College and 100 ordinary college students of liberal arts and science. The participants were investigated through questionnaires about thinking style. Through analyzing the collected data, the following conclusions were obtained.1.The general features of art college students'thinking style: on the whole, art college students preferred hierarchic style, legislative style, external style, aggressive style and executive style to internal style and conservative style.2.For art college students, significant differences of thinking style are existing on genders and grades: first, compared with girls, boys prefer judicial style,internal style and global style. Second the freshmen have more obvious external style and liberal style than the seniors, who yet have more obvious global style.3.For art college students, significant differences of thinking style are existing on majors: compared with ordinary college students, the students majored in music scored highly on legislative style, hierarchic style; the students majored in fine arts got high score on legislative style, judicial style,internal style, aggressive style and conservative style; the students majored on designing got high score on legislative style, executive style , judicial style, hierarchic style, external style and aggressive style; the students majored on drama had quite high score on internal style and conservative style, but have the lowest score on the other seven variables; the students majored on theatre scored highly on judicial style,and internal style; the students majored on dancing got rather high score on legislative style, hierarchic style and external style.4.For ordinary college students of liberal arts and science, the general features and differences of thinking style are as follows: generally speaking, the ordinary college students of liberal arts prefer legislative style, hierarchic style, internal style and executive style to global style and conservative style; however, the ordinary college students of science are more inclined to legislative style, hierarchic style, executive style,and internal style than external style and conservative style. The ordinary college students of science got higher score on legislative style, hierarchic style and global style than the ordinary college students of liberal arts.5.On legislative style and global style, the ordinary college students of science got significantly higher score than the art college students and the ordinary college students of liberal arts.
