The progress of society and the development of technology has put for ward a higher requirement on talent cultivation. As a consequence, teaching in universities which bare the responsibility of fostering talents will face a new challenge.Teaching assessment is the key to physical course reform in high institutes because teaching assessment is the invisible baton which concerns every aspect of teaching has a deep influence on a person learning desire, learning development, emotion and psychology. Therefore, teaching assessment of physical which restrain the physical teaching reform in universities becomes an important sector.The present assessment model which only aims for identification and degree among students has exposed its limitation and to a large extend fails to adjust to the demand from the development of specialized courses of physical education. As a result, it seriously restrains and hinders the conduction of quality education and the accomplishment of teaching aims of specialized physical education course in high institutes has changed and improved a lot. But, still there exist some problems because of the influence which comes from old examination-oriented education.The skills for track and field are the teaching emphasis in our specialized physical and straight hurdle is an important teaching item. Although it won't take a long time to teach, the practice identity for students is high. More over, the skill is complicated and difficult, which has a high requirement on student physical and psychological quality. So how to motivate students'learning initiative and seek for the best teaching quality is what our physical education works need to do.This subject is to explore the application of formative assessment in the learning effect of straight hurdles for specialized physical in theory and practice. The experimental result shows that the formative assessment for hurdles teaching can be concretely turned into assessment index and assessment forms which can help direct students , complete the teaching task, improve learning efficiency and strengthen the combination between theory and physical practice.
