The scientific research and technological personnel all around the world have done a lot of research on pole vault from different angles since the emergence of the sport. Many general rules and laws have been revealed after years of research, which is necessarily beneficial to the improvement of the techniques involved in the sport. Most of the researches have been focused on the following issues: training method, performance capacity, techniques analysis, the trend of development, evaluation of the ability. psychological training and other factors that are related to the performance of the athletes. But there is no systematic studies of the technical details about how to take off after sticking the pole in the ground. This thesis is about to analyze and summarize the skills in details and find out the rules abided by so as to develop a systematic, complete theory. The research is expected to provide the guidance for the training in the sport and help the athletes to get the scientific , specific and better training . The sport will therby be improved and developed.By using the method of recording the image at a high speed, this article is going to analyze the takeoff techniques of the six top athletes who participated in the 11th World Youth Track and Field Championships held in August , 2006 in Beijing. Its kinematic character is revealed by studying the angle between the pole and the ground, the distance between the grasping point of the upper hand and the point of takeoff and the changing value of speed when taking off.Based on the research, the author has drawn a conclusion that to the world-famous young pole-vaulter the distance between their grasping point of the upper hand and point of take off is longer than that of the others. Most of the subjects follow the pattern : that is to take off after sticking the pole in the ground. This method is likely to prevent the movement of the body and slow the running , as a result the athletes can't take off in a satisfactory way. If the included angle between the pole and the ground is too big and the post is erected too soon , the time it can remain vertical in midair will be shortened ,which will affect the completing of the technique; if the prancing angle is too big, and the post could not bend enough., the athletes can't do it satisfyingly. In addition, the prancing angle and the way the leg swings are correlated. The legs' swinging is crucial to speeding up the takeoff . The prancing height and the height of grasping point are the important factors taken into consideration in evaluating the performance of the pole-vaulter and his overall techniques. If the subjects narrow the angle of the legs and increase the angular velocity when they touch the ground, they can take off in a better way.
