The recruitment and training of counselors is an important part in higher education institutions. An in-depth discussion of this issue outlined in this thesis. At present, a number of problems affect the professional development of counselors, such as the organization of the staff being irrational, the roles being ambiguous, and the mobility being frequent. This thesis analyses the necessity and feasibility of the professionalism of counselors.Based on the study of predecessors, there are many problems on the admission system, professional level and the encouragement system. In this thesis, the following procedures are proposed: firstly, the examination system; secondly, the allocation of roles of counselors; thirdly, the promoting system. It should be pointed out that it takes a long time for universities to train highly qualified counselors.This thesis contains the following parts: the first part analyses the present situation and problems of faced by counselors; the second part outlines the factors which effects the recruitment and training of counselors; the third part presents suggestions to improve the professional development of counselor; the fourth part gives a case study and the conclusion is presented in the last part..
