Under the background of a globalization trend and the development of Chian's reform and opening-up, the cultivation of cross cultural awareness and ability is an important problem put forward in the new curriculum reform.As a future builder and world citizen and in a society of cultural diversity,it matters much whether a person is equipped with the cross cultural communication ability.This essay analyzes the importance of the cultivation of cross cultural awareness and ability in the development of students' healthy personality,the economic development and the realisation of a harmonious society,on the basis of a clear connotation and function of culture and the cross cultural characteristics and with a combination of history and reality.From the angle of middle school history teaching and from the aspects of building the students' knowledge system,enriching the students' cultural experiences,developing the students' cultural abilities and solving the practical cultural problems,the assey is specified in the methods of the cultivation of cross cultural awareness and ability,and further explores the tendency and the hamefulness of extreme nationalism,total westernization and hegemonism which need getting over in the middle school history teaching.It also deals with the chanllenges and requirements brought to the teachers in such aspects as knowledge visions, educational ideas,teaching abilities,personality qualities,etc.
