Research On Professional Development Of Counselors In Chinese Universities

Counselors play an important role in teaching and learning in universities and colleges. They function as both teachers and administrators. They are also the backbones, the organizers, the executors and the instructors of the ideological and political education in colleges. Counselors are responsible for educating people and imparting knowledge, who, as a result, play an important role in students'life. With the development and the popularization of higher education in China, counselors do help a lot for the stabilization and the reforming of the colleges.This thesis analyses reasons of the existing problems in counselors'groups and tries to find out the solutions of those problems through the questionnaire surveys toward those counselors in colleges. There are five parts in this thesis:The first part: introduction. It shows several aspects of this research, such as the backgrounds, the current situations both home and abroad, the bibliographies, the studying contents and the theoretical basis.The second part: the brief introductions of counselors in colleges. At first, the author of this thesis defines what a counselor through the evolution of counselors in colleges. Then the duty ranges of counselors are made clear. Finally the importance of counselors in colleges is explained.The third part: the analysis of the reasons and the current situation of counselors in colleges. The author makes an analysis of the reasons for the instability of counselors in colleges and the frequent quitting through the questionnaire surveys.The fourth part: the suggestions of the counselor group constitution in colleges. They are the admitting system, the training system, the organizing system and the safeguard system. The professionalism, the specialization and expert is also outlined in the training of counselors.The fifth part: conclusion. The author draws a conclusion and explains the key points as well as the future research directions.
