English,as a tool subject, whose role has been realized by more and more people, is being focused on, especially in Senior High. As one of the three basic subjects, schools, teachers and students have been paying special attention to it. Some students desperately hope to learn English well, but for various reasons, their English marks are far from satisfactory. They are so-called students with learning difficulty in English. The existence of the students is a universal phenomenon. If the problem can be well solved, it will be a matter of great significance in enhancing the development of the students, of the schools and of the country.In this thesis, part 1 introduces the current situation of the students with learning difficulty in English,and put forward the research question. Part 2, beginning with the definition of the students with learning difficulty, analyses the causes of such a phenomenon, among which the lack of learning motivation is a basic one. Therefore, to improve the students'learning motivation is the first-of-all and basic measure to solve the problem. Besides, this part also deals with the definition of learning motivation, and analyses the reasons for the lack of learning motivation, mainly because of some problems existing in English teaching in Senior High, and gives the theoretical basis. Cognitive psychologists divide motivation into intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Compared with the latter, the former is long-lasting and stronger, which should be laid more emphasis on. Part 3 investigates the learning motivation of the students in the branch school where the author ever worked to test whether there is a relation between their motivation and their learning performance. In part 4, the author suggests some strategies to improve the learning motivation of the students with learning difficulty. In part 5, the author reaches the conclusion and points out the problems worth investigating in future.Being a special group, the students with learning difficulty should be given more concern to. The success of educating the students with learning difficulty will accelerate the development of education, of the country, and even of our society. If we act in a proper way and sustain it, the result will be satisfactory.
