Educational service trade is categorized as an important sector of service trade in General Agreement on Trade in Services of World Trade Organization. China has joined World Trade Organization (WTO) for several years, while developed countries have strong competitive power in educational service industry. As higher education is a main sector of service trade, the situation will definitely have comprehensive and profound influence on China's higher educational service trade.First of all, the thesis introduces the basic theory of higher educational service trade, interprets the rules and regulation of higher educational service trade, and analyzes China's commitments to higher educational service trade as well. In the previous years, global higher educational service trade has developed rapidly, the competition of trade market in higher education is very stiff, and the tendency of it is diversified. Generally speaking, China has had great and rapid development in higher educational service trade. The thesis analyzes the current situation of China's import and export of higher educational service trade in detail, in terms of four modes of higher educational service trade, namely consumption abroad, cross-border supply, commercial presence and presence of natural persons, based on present statistical data. Compared with developed countries, the quality of China's higher educational service trade is poorer, its trade deficit is bigger, both its advantages and disadvantages are obvious, and its competitive power is weaker. As a result, the thesis tries to analyze the competitiveness of higher educational service trade in China from the aspect of demand and supply, strategy and structure, government and challenges. Moreover, developed countries' rich experience in it may deserves our learning, for example, strong competitiveness, effective policies, great consciousness of marketing development and etc. Therefore, the following suggestions are made to promote the overall development of China's higher education service trade, bringing advantages into play and overcoming disadvantages, with good experience of developed countries. Firstly, it is advisable to accelerate the development of higher educational brand and improve China's competitive power in higher educational service trade. Secondly, it is important to maintain a correct opening degree of China's higher educational service trade, and explore global higher educational service market actively. Thirdly, it is essential to establish regulatory system of China's higher educational service, and create a better institutional environment. Finally, it is stressed to bring comparative advantages into full play, and expand the mode of consumption abroad.The conclusion of the thesis is drawn that though China has had great development in higher educational service trade, there is a big gap between China and developed countries in it. Therefore, it is essential to analyze China's competitiveness of higher educational service trade, and learn from developed countries' experience, which will contribute to develop China's service trade of higher education, improve trade deficit of it, expand trade export of it, and participate in the global competition of trade market of higher education service.
