The theory "Aesthetic of Reception" raised by Hans Robert Jauss and Wolfgang Iser makes the definition of the reading process. They hold the opinion that the meaning of a text can only be produced during the reader' reading process, which is also the production of the interaction of texts and readers, and that reading is a process in which the readers participate actively and initiatively.The theory is reader-centered and it has put forward many important conceptions, such as "Reading Expectation", "Calling Structure", "Vision Melt" .The principles and methods for Aesthetic Reception can play an important directing role in our solving some practical problems with the middle school Chinese classical novel teaching activities.The topic of the thesis is to seek the characteristics of the middle school classical ancient novel teaching, which are different from those of ordinary applied articles, other literature works and Chinese classical works.the characteristics cover the teaching aims, teaching processes, teaching contents and teaching methods, etc.the most important of which is to develop the teaching materials and their strategies for the Chinese classical works.The first two parts are the theortical research on the topic. The first part reviews the history of the Chinese classical novel reception, which is based on the current situation of its middle school teaching practice.The second part deals with the variety and coherence of the teaching aims. According to the principles of Aesthetic Reception.it constructs the three stages of process in reading teaching, ie.the first stage is reading comprehension stage with aesthetic perception;the second stage is interpretation stage with meaning introspection;the third stage is history rebuilding stage with meaning melt.The last three parts are about the teaching practice, based on the questionaire results and following "The Standards of Chinese Course of Full-time Compulsory Education", the third part makes a concrete analysis of the middle school novel teaching and sets the teaching objectives for the middle school classical Chinese novel teaching. The fourth part sums up the four aesthetic characters, for example, "seeking the involved plot" and induces the three typical styles and characteristics of the middle school Chinese classical novels. The fifth part makes a research on developing the teaching materials and stragies of the classical Chinese ancient novel teaching. Besides that, according to the types of middle school Chinese classical novel, this part selects the proper novel teaching contents and induces a series of concrete teaching methods and practical procedures.According to the "Aesthetic of Reception" opinion, by means of various forms of teaching activities, such as exploratory reading, teaching design, and commenting on the presented classes, the thesis aims to explore the characteristics of the middle school Chinese classical novel teaching from many aspects and creates some new practical schemes for the teaching activities and sums up some practical teaching contents and strategies.
