With the development of the environment of globalization, the contacts between China and other countries are more frequent than ever before, and the intercultural communication becomes the realistic demand. English instruction in middle school also puts forward higher requirements for cultural instruction because of the change of curriculum environment. This paper focuses on how the environment in middle school interferes with the cultural instruction and how we should bring forth the environment for cultural instruction in order to achieve the instructional aim: improve students' intercultural communication competence.This paper consists of seven chapters. Chapter I interprets the importance and necessity of the environmental studies from the social change, the education reform, the development of educational theories and other related fields. Chapter II defines the term "environment" under the context of learning and instruction and offers a sustained interpretive survey of the environment of English language, English learning and English curriculum development. Chapter III analyzes the nuanced aspect of culture, communication and the instructional environment of culture as well as their implications for cultural instruction in Middle School English classrooms. Chapter IV describes the intertwined relationship between language and culture, and between cultural instruction and the environment, illustrating further the significance of environment on cultural instruction and intercultural communication. Chapter V provides a survey of the environment of English intercultural instruction in present-day middle schools and discusses the obstacles at present. Chapter VI suggests approaches towards the construction of an ideal environment for intercultural instruction in middle schools. They include diverse aspects ranging from teachers' development, classroom environment, teacher-student relationship, to curriculum resources, and so forth. Chapter VII draws a conclusion.
