Three Social Transformations And Development Of Women Sport In China

Social transformations influence various aspects of the society. Each of the three major social transformations in China greatly impacted Chinese woman sports. Since 1840,Chinese women have stepped out from their enclosed families to the society, and women sports in China began a long and difficult journey. Up to now achievements made in Chinese female athletic sports have stunned the world,and mass sports have made great progress. However considering the unbalanced development between athletic sports and mass sports, it is important to study the evolution of women sports during the three transformations and to sum up the successes and shortfalls. The paper studies the development of China's women sports in the three social transformations by means of document analysis, logic analysis and comparative study.This paper analyses the historical journeys that China's women sports have taken under different social systems. It generalizes the sicial backgrounds and characteristics of women's sports and concludes that the development of China's women sports relies on social progress in civilization, social systems, policies and laws and the economic standards then, and in particular women's struggle for their own rights and affirmation of their own values.The first transformation witnesses the rise of women's sports in China. The second is characterized with its difficult advancement and the third sees the rapid progress of women's sports. During the two latest transformations,the development of Chinese women sports is unbalanced due to policy orientation and economic development among other factors."System of Centralization"and"Plan of Olympic Honors"bring about spectacular achievements for athletic sports;"Plan of Fitness for All"promotes the development of female mass sports.Although great achievements have been made, there remain many problems with women sports: how to maintain the magnificant achievements of women sports in market economy, and how to promote the healthy development of female mass sports so that China's women sports will be truly ranked among the top women sports countries in the world.
