Language subject's main objective is to cultivate the language proficiency of students, that is, a language subject is an "ability-oriented" subject. And the ways of ability-teaching and knowledge-teaching are very different. The objectivity of knowledge enables it to be passed, but not the ability. Ability belongs to a psychological system, is a subjective thing existing within an individual, and this individual, subjective thing comes from the moving process of an individual, so it can't be passed among individuals. This means one's ability must be acquired by establishing connections between subject and moving object through the physical and psychological movements within the subject, and thus change the subject itself. Therefore, logically speaking, teaching activities aimed at ability cultivation must emphasize the importance of the students' activities and their subject position. Consequently, in order to cultivate the language proficiency of students, we must adhere to the students' subject position and develop their self-developing ability of language.This thesis integrates the self-developing theory, characteristics of the language subjects and the practice of language teaching, confers the basic principles and strategies that improve the self-developing ability of students, and brings up some training methods, class teaching mode and the necessary supporting reforms. To improve students' integrated quality of language, we can only help them to develop a better language learning strategies and to form a good language-learning habit by cultivating their self-learning awareness, so that we can finally reach the purpose of language teaching. In the classroom teaching, improve the class teaching aim and efficiency through the steps like students' self-study, teachers' guide, teachers' check and intensive teaching and students' exercises. And also, teachers need to constantly improve their own quality, continuously explore and improve the science and art in their teaching methods in order to cultivate the students' self-developing ability of language. Language teaching reform is a comprehensive project, to guarantee the smooth application of the cultivation program of students' self-developing ability of language, some corresponding supporting reforms in the preparation of materials and examination methods are still necessary.
