Media Consensus Environment Study Of The Current Basic Education Curriculum Reform

Currently, mass media commonly pays certain attention to a new round of elementary education curriculum reform that concerns thousands of families, and future of the nation. Then, what on earth is the media consensus environment on which smooth development of the curriculum reform relies? This thesis takes the reports on curriculum reform by "China Education Daily", "China Youth Daily" and "the Education Forum of the Website of Sohu" from September 1999 to December 2007 as examples, and conducts separately studies for seven structured dimensions of media consensus environment of curriculum reform by approach of empirical research. Firstly, statistical analysis for data is made for consensus intensity, consensus body and consensus guidance. And then text analysis is used to deeply understand the curriculum reform media consensus' headlines language apply and its focus on topics, as well as examine value orientation of the media news, consensus body 's educational concept and understanding of curriculum reform by means of specific cases.From media reflecting consensus for media consensus environment of curriculum reform, the number of the reports appears an increasing trend as a whole. Consensus content apparently emerges increasingly pluralistic tendency. Consensus direction is primarily positive publicity, while mostly negative comments on the forum. Consensus bodies in different media change dramatically. Curriculum reform bodies, teachers, parents and students in comprehensive paper media, have little right of discourse. Consensus foci are concentrated on the reports of news propaganda, class teaching reform as well as reform of curriculum evaluation and quality education. From media guiding consensus, media need attaching more importance to the curriculum reform. Some reports about curriculum reform appeared deviation from value orientation and understanding, and there also existed wrong notion of education in certain reports, which directly damaged consensus environment of curriculum reform. Hereon, the author puts forward suggestions for media so as to construct a healthy curriculum reform consensus environment. These suggestions are: to improve the level of understanding curriculum reform and enhance the publicity; to cultivate diverse consensus body; to strengthen energetically culture of education concept and correct news notion; and to play a better role of consensus direction.
