The popularization of new media such as mobile phones and the Internet has provided a platform for us to speak out freely. However, while promoting global communication and information sharing,it has also subverted the linear dissemination of media information and blurred the boundaries among disseminators, information and recipients. As a group of college students growing up with the development of new media, they are in a special physiological development stage, such as publicity of personality, pursuit of self and high enthusiasm for new things. At the same time, this stage is also an important stage for them to form their own values, philosophy and world outlook. However,in the current environment of complicated and mixed media information, how to make college students use the new media to serve their own growth, how to make them become "sifters" of effective information, and how to maintain a clear judgment in the flood of information are still important issues to be solved. Therefore, the research on media literacy of college students chosen in this paper has practical and theoretical significance. The main question that this paper wants to study is,under the new media environment, what is the current situation of college students' media literacy? And whether personal attributes, media contacts and media knowledge have any influence on the media literacy of college students? With these problems in mind, this paper first defines the core concepts through literature analysis, then compiles relevant questionnaires, and takes college students in Shanghai Normal University as the research object to carry out a questionnaire survey.Based on the statistical analysis of the data, this paper makes a preliminary judgment on the current situation of college students' media literacy in Shanghai Normal University under the new media environment from five aspects: understanding, judgment, production skills, participation and creation.Due to the imbalance of college students' media contact, insufficient awareness of media, general lack of judgment ability on media information, and often passive participation in public affairs, this paper concludes that college students' media literacy needs to be improved. On the basis of the analysis of the current situation,it is found that gender, professional type, study period, media contact content and media knowledge all affect the media literacy level of college students more or less.Among them, media contact content has significant difference in judgment dimension and participation dimension, while media knowledge has significant difference in understanding dimension and participation dimension. Finally, based on the analysis of the current situation and influencing factors that the media literacy level of Shanghai Normal Universities needs to be improved, this paper puts forward the feasible strategies to improve the media literacy of college students from the perspective of schools and students themselves.
