The 21st century is a crucial development period for sports in China, but also a good opportunity to develop and utilize sports competitive talent resources. Athletes as an important part of sports competitive talent resources, the quality and efficiency of work on its selection and growing process are directly related to the results and performance of the country and regions. Guangdong province is the first to develop canoeing in China, through more than 50 years of exploration and development, has accumulated rich experiences and trained a large number of canoeing elites, achieved outstanding results such as National champions, Asian champions, World champions as well as the forth place in the Olympic Games.By researching and analyzing the growing process of 27 outstanding athletes in Guangdong Canoeing Team, using the knowledge of Sociology, Human Resources Management, Sports Training, Sports Management, Sports Psychology and so on, the main research methods used are literature consultation, interviews, surveys, mathematical statistics. Focusing the research and analyze on the internal and external factors and its relations in the growing process of the outstanding athletes. The article summarized the work on athletes selection and growing process, discloses the law of growth. We use the studying result as practical guidance of the Chinese national team preparing for the Olympic Games and as theoretical support for the continuing development in Canoe sport in China. The results show the success of Guangdong Canoeing elites depends on the factors as specific physical capacity for canoe sport, tenacity, self-confidence, mental health and good personality, intelligence, good sport environment, efficient supporting team, harmonious relationships with others. Besides, to be success need also to adapt the management by objectives system in the provincial team, an integrated one-stop sport management system, and a smooth connection in the steps of selection and growing process.
