Nowadays,the rapid development of modern science and technology has been generating strong impact on our modern education,which is highly efficient, technological and pragmatic with focusing more on knowledge than feeling,more knowledge than morality and more intelligence development than the humanistic qualities.Misled by "exam-oriented education",some English teachers pay more attention to the instruction of knowledge in class,without adequate recognition of the the "cross-culture" consciousness and humanities in educating people.As a result,in the cross-culture communicating the problems appear for lack of the humanistic qualities,such as "'Dumb" English,"culture shocks",the low efficiency with time-wasting in the foreign language teaching and so on.With the ongoing overall education and the curriculum reform,how to improve English teacher's humanistic qualities in the primary and the secondary schools plays an emergent role on the qualities of foreign language teaching,with the hope of being the new breakthrough point of the professional development of the teachers.Hence,the thesis includes five parts.In the beginning,I have treated the reasons for my choosing this research topic,discriminated some key concepts and outlined the current studies in this area.The first part has analyzed the forms and reasons of the deprivation of humanism as well as the meaning of the current English teachers' humanistic qualities in the primary and the secondary schools.The second part has discussed the humanities in English as a discipline.In the third part has introduced the characteristics and connation of education in particular.The fourth part and fifth part have dealt with strategies in materializing English teachers' humanistic qualities from the five perspectives,that is to say,reading,discovering the humanistic ideas from English class,reflecting the teachers' happiness,constructing the innovative teacher education and humanistic campus.In the end,I have outlined the main ideas of my paper and mentioned the innovative points in this paper as well as the problems deserving attention in the subsequent studies.
