This thesis takes the teachers in primary schools as the object of the study. Such educational science research methods as survey, observation , experience summary, interview and literature concordance are adopted. This study has made a more penetrating survey and a thorough analysis of present situation of the teachers' qualities in primary schools in Fingliang Prefecture of Gansu Province and the main factors that affect the improvement of teachers' qualities in primary schools. The thesis has put forward the conclusions that are meaningful in reality and valuable in theory. The thesis is mainly composed of five parts.The first part is the foreword. It summarily narrates the background, the present situation and analysis, the realistic meaning, theoretical value of the problem of study and advances the basis of theory and practice. The basic structure and whole thinking of the study has been formed.The second part is the procedure and method of the research of the problem. It relates the choice of the studying methods and the operating process of the research. An objective appraisal is made of the present situation of the teacthers' qualities in primary schools and the main factors that affect the improvement of the teacthers' qualities in the aspects of the design and compiling of questionnare and the data process.The third part is the analysis and proof of the results of the survey. The thesis focally analyses the present situation of the thought moral qualities of the teachers in primary schools, the qualities of their professional ability and the qualities of individual psychology, as well as the problems existing and their causes by means of the results of the investigation. Furtherly, the main factors of the tributng spirit of the cause, theprofessional attitude, the working condition,the working pressure and difficulties , the appraisal and management, the teaching research and teachers' training, all of which affects the improvement of the teachers' qualities, are proved in great detail.The fourth part is the synthetical discussion. The favourable factors and unfavourable factors of the improvement of teachers' qualities in primary schools are deeply analysed and proved on the basis of the first-hand materials gained from the survey and study, as well as on the basis of the structure of synthetical qualities of teachers in primary schools. Moreover, the effective ways to the improvement of teachers' qualities in primary schools are put forward.The fifth part is about the suggestions of the counter measures of how to improve teachers' qualities in primary schools, including firstly, the modern educational ideology should be formed, secondly, teachers' knowledge structures should be perfected, thirdly ,the level of teachers' educational science research should be enhanced, fourthly, the system of reasonable appraisal and management should be set up,fifthly, the pattern full of vigour of teachers' training should be constructed. All mentioned in the part embodies the applied value of the studying problem.
