A Study On The Role Of Supervisor In Graduate Education

Graduate education is the highest level of higher education, the quality of graduate education is one of the important factors to measure the quality of higher education. It is also a potential indicator of country's competitiveness. With the increasing scale of higher education, the question of whether the quality of graduate students can be protected and how to protect it, is not only academic issues, but also become the focus of the society. And in the process of capability development of graduate students, supervisor play a vital role in the course of postgraduate training.This paper, orienting the issue of how to ensure the quality of postgraduate education, and basing on the results of some investigation, suggests an important factor of ensures quality of postgraduate education, that is the role of supervisor. On that basis, the paper analysis what aspects are influential factors and specific way to influence. Through theoretical research and empirical studies, qualitative and quantitative analysis, the paper demonstrates the important role of supervisor, then make the conclusion.The paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter makes introduction to the study background and significance, the relevant definitions, research methods and research ideas; The second chapter reviews the role of supervisor in the history of post-graduate education; The third chapter, from a realistic approach and the survey results of the quality of various types of post-graduate reflecting the problems discusses significant influence of supervisor on graduate students and the impact of approach in tern of professional knowledge, academic interest, research capacity, learning attitude, as well as moral quality; The fourth chapter chooses the case of, Professor Jiang Zheng-hua, who is a population experts and from Xi'an Jiaotong University ,and his nine postgraduate students, using statistical software of SPSS analyzing the degree Professor Jiang influence his students, then draw the relevant model and confirms the conclusions; The fifth chapter is the conclusion, through the second and third chapters of theoretical analysis, and the case study in Chapter 5 of quantitative analysis, make the conclusion that supervisor play an important role in the training of graduate students , manifesting in the teacher's own academic standards, research style, charisma academic interest and the impact on graduate students. Finally, the paper put forward suggestions to how to ensure high-quality graduate students in tern of supervisor.
