Research On Status, Trend And Strategy Of Population Aging In Gansu Province

Population aging is an increasing process where the number of people above 60 or 65 years old keeps growing in the population proportion. It is a description of the dynamic rising trend of middle aged and old people in the gross population, and it is a concept reflecting the population age structural changes. Population aging is an important population phenomenon during the transformation of population re-generation.Along with the increasing industrialization and modernization of various countries in the world, the birth rate and the population natural growth rate keep decreasing year by year in some countries, which is leading to the transformation of population age structures to aging population, and the problem of aging population is getting more and more serious. According to statistics, in 2008, the population above 65 years old in Gansu Province was 1.99 million, accounting for 7.58% of the total population, which were indicators of an aging population society.Population aging is an economic problem as well as a social problem. Dealt with improperly, if will bring about huge negative impacts upon social and economic development. So, the studies of the population aging of Gansu Province and the analyses of its population aging situations will be of great significance to our efforts to correctly realize the development trend of the population aging of Gansu Province and to our active search for effective measures to resolve the problem.The Paper consists of the seven sections as follows:The first section is Introduction. The research background, significance, approach, domestic and overseas achievements were briefly introduced.The second section presents the theoretical basis for the research and gives the definitions to the concepts of population aging, age median, bring-up ratio, etc. The literature review was carried out on relative field in domestic and overseas.The third section analyzes the present situations of population aging in Gansu Province. The total population, population age structure and characteristics of population aging in Gansu province were investigated. The fourth section is the trend of population aging in Gansu province. In this section the trend of population aging in Gansu province was predicted and analyzed.The fifth section is the influence of population aging in Gansu province. The influence of population aging in Gansu province was emphasized via two aspects including society and economy.The sixth section is the strategy of population aging in Gansu province. Several ways and measures were presented aiming at the population aging in Gansu province.
