With the development of fundmental education reform and increasingly deepening research on educational theory,the traditional authority of teachers have been confronted with many challenges,and the relevant problems are becoming the focus of teaching and researches. Teenagers are in the crucial period of forming their cognition,sensiblity and values in the secondary school,in which period the students'initiative strengthens,scope of knowledge broadens and their dependence on teachers gradually weakens. This requires teachers to transform their authority accordingly to enhance the development of students, therefore,it is of great significance,both theoretically and practically,to launch a profound research on the issue of authority of teachers.The authority of teachers is an indispensible element in teaching. Its exhistence is justified by its function of its proper practice in ensuring the smoothness of class teaching, the physical and mental health of students and the play of teachers'role. Apposit authority of teachers,supposed to be democratic,reasonable and appropriate,can have positive influence on students. Hence,the authority of teachers ought to be exercised on the basis of legitimacy.The authority of teachers is faced with many problems,such as the weakening of the essencial authority,the exhistence of authoritarianism and alienation of authority. There are three reasons. Firstly,on the part of teachers, they have only vague idea about their roles, poor proficiency,and low community authorization,and the moral degredation of some teachers have weakened their authority. Secondly,on the part of students,the diverse ways of obtaining knowledge,the strengthened initiative and out-going personalities of only children have lessened the authority of teachers. Thirdly,on the part of the society,the impact of the value of money worship under the tide of market economy and direction of public opinion of education industrialization have exerted influence on the authority of teachers. It is effective to resolve the problems on the authlrity of teachers by introducing dialogue teaching. It is a form of teaching which respects the subjectivity of both teachers and students,cultivates generative thinking and creative quality,and pursues the meaning of life. In dialogue teaching,the teacher and the students,being equal,can communicate freely.Much is required to be done in four aspect for the transformation of the authority of teachers. The first is the transformarion of the concept of education which needs introducing the cooperative,explorative and generative notion of education. The second is the transformation of teachers'role to instruct,involve and research. The third is the transformation of the way of teaching,requiring the application of the discovering, competative and cooperative teaching method. The fourth is the transformation of the personality of teachers who should strengthen their sense of responsibility,respect students and morally self-dicsipline.In addition,the rights of teachers ought to be endowed and guaranteed. In the first place,the society is responsible for creating the cultural atmosphere of respecting teachers and their teaching; besides,the state government is due to enhance the construction of teacher faculty; moreover,the Ministry of Education ought to endow upon teachers their rights; lastly,it is necessary to set up regulation-and-check system of teachers'rights.
