Confronting with the emergence of the permanent education and socialized study in the 21st century, the teacher has to provide the student with the ability of acquiring knowledge independently and makes them to keep up with the pace of times constantly in their whole life. The author believes that independent study makes the permanent study possible.The paper summarizes the existing research results which based on the introduction of the independent study outer and inner. It puts forward the questions, for instance, the blankness of independent study in the model of the classroom teaching, moreover, the essence of the model in the classroom teaching are still a kind of model leaded by the teacher, such as, guidance-discuss, direction- exploration. This model is in the aim of passing on the knowledge and acquiring the skill which can not stimulating the self consciousness to promote the development of acknowledge. It also can't calculate their ability of independent study. Then, it does the research about cultivating the ability of independent study in the classroom teaching theoretically which against the series problem. It poses the corresponding methods: changing ideas, providing the independent study with the favorable surrounding, stimulating the inner motivation of the student. Based on this, we can put independent study into teaching practice. The concrete steps are as flowed: fixing the goal of independent study, stimulating the motivation of innovation assigning the content of the teaching martial, checking the independent study, discussing the detail of the independent study, leading the independent study via the teacher, exchanging the ideas, finding the martial of study, doing the subsequent research. Finally, it draws the result that based on the study effect of the testing class and contrasting class, evaluated through the tow aspects of the autonomy and creativity.It indicates that the cultivation of the independent study's ability in the geography class can promote the ability of independent study and score; moreover, it is favorable for the life-long education and sustainable development.
