Since the restoration of it by Mr. Coubertin in 1894, the Olympic Games adhered to the principle of the participation of the amateur instead of the professional athletes, which caused a great challenge in terms of the competitive level of the Olympic Games and the general concern. Later, the 7th chairman of IOC, Juan Antonio Samaranch, made some reformation so that the professional athletes had the opportunity to participate in the Olympic Games. Besides, in spite of the censure from others, he supported the tentative idea that commerce should be developed in the 23rd Los Angeles Olympic Games, which reversed the trend that the host country suffered a great loss economically. From then on, the Olympic Games revived and the scope of it was becoming more and more extensive gradually. The principle of sincerity and faith was an old but real topic. In the first aspect, it had been existed since the ancient times and it became a theory rooted in our mind, which guided people's behavior. In the second aspect, with the further development of commercialization and professionalization of modern sports, it was more important to win victory than to participate in the competition, which deviated from the Olympic Spirit"Peace, Friendship, and Progress", which was the original intention of the creator Mr. Coubertin. While the most obvious negative aspect was that a lot of people stopped at nothing in order to pursuit their own profits, ignoring the principle of sincerity and faith. Thus some phenomenon that violated fair competition came into being, such as the usage of stimulant by the athletes, the bribery of the executors and the false report of the age and identity. In addition, there were other phenomenons existing, such as winning victory through age superiority or professional skills, which were all against the principle of sincerity and faith. It was because of those unhealthy tendencies mentioned above that the Olympic Movement lost its general concern and it cast a shadow for the great prospect of the Olympic Games for they violated the Olympic Charter and affected the basic principle of it. Therefore the principle of sincerity and faith was vital for the development of the Olympic Movement. On the basis of comprehensive adoption of various methods including document and data, interviewing the experts, this paper will discuss and compare the similarities and differences in the view of sincerity and faith between the eastern and the western country. At the same time, it will analyze the reason why the principle of sincerity and faith lost in the Olympic Movement so as to illustrate the loss of it will bring bad effects on the development of the Olympic Movement. In the Chinese traditional thoughts, the principle of sincerity and faith was the traditional virtue of our nation and it was a kind of everlasting civilization that would not vanish following the changes of the times and the rise and fall of a nation. In the primitive society, faith started to play a very important part in people's productive activities and their daily life. Until the end of the last century, the scholars of the Olympic Movement found that the physical culture had a complementary effect on the Olympic Movement and the conditions were ripe for making more contributions for it. That indicated the Chinese traditional thoughts agreed with the Olympic spirit in some certain aspects. Thus we should make good use of the opportunity of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games to make great contributions for the principle of sincerity and faith through our excellent traditional culture. By combining with the traditional thoughts about sincerity and faith of our country, this paper will make some suggestions for the construction of the principle of sincerity and faith, the hosting of a unique Beijing Olympic Games and further the creating of a good atmosphere and a nice environment for the competition.
