STS is a complex, large and systematic discipline studying the relationship between science and technology and society. It is a new interdisciplinary study field. Infiltrating STS education into teaching of all science disciplines is both development direction of China's education reform and important content of Quality Education.The dissertation is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is about the causes of the subject put forward, present research situation at home and abroad, purposes and significance of studying the subject. The second chapter from the theoretical height illustrates theoretical bases, education theory, new curriculum reform theory which are closely related to STS. The third chapter makes a study of how to infiltrating STS education into the mechanics teaching in junior high school. Elaborate analysis is made from the conditions of implementation, content, principles and ways. The fourth chapter does some researches about practice of STS education in the mechanics teaching. Teachers and students in our school about the understanding situation of STS and implementation situation of STS are investigated, content of mechanics in junior high school suitable for STS education is listed and action implementation of STS education is conducted. The fifth chapter summarizes the preliminary conclusions of infiltrating STS education through the mechanics in junior high school under the new curriculum standards, and brings forward prospect and thinking about carrying out STS education in the future.Innovation points of the dissertation are as follows: through combining the physics mechanics teaching in junior high school, how to infiltrating STS education through the mechanics teaching in junior high school is studied; related content of STS education in the mechanics teaching materials is mined; practice researches are made and so on. According to content and patterns of STS education, the dissertation applies three ways of combining physics teaching with STS education to the process of physics teaching. Teaching in class is the main channel of STS education, while social practice and scientific and technological activities are regarded as supplements and continuing of STS education. Infiltrating in class takes our country's new curriculum standards as the main line, taking STS education as a supplement. Scientific and technological activities are in the forms of scientific and technological experimental activities, Scientific and technological subject lectures, small papers and so on. Organizing students to participate in social practice makes students understand the society, experience life and deepen STS education. Of course, discussion of this dissertation is only a preliminary attempt, while more deep discussion awaits joint effort of the majority of colleagues.
