with the widespread of television in rural china, the information of the external world was inputted into the rural community in recent years. through the analysis of this historic process, this paper tried to discribe the changes of the rural public life influenced by the strength of modernity and nation state.through the direct transmission mechanism of the television, farmers could abtain policy information from the central goverment, which completely changed the monoply of the policy information by the grass-units, and thus made them difficult to benefit from the operate of information. What's more, the political ability and legal consciousness increased by the nurture of the TV news. However, the administrative capability of the grass-units decreased simultaneously, and the distinct interpretation of the policy spirit and the law between the farmers and the basis-level officials made the grass-units difficult to manage. The interactive relations among the farmers also indirectly influenced by the television. The time-immigrant effect of the television and the space-immigrant effect of the rural migrant workers' movement prompted the degration of rural public sphere, the divertion of rural public topics and the rupture of rural generation gap, these made the solidarity of the rural community decreased aggressively and made the farmers cannot cooperate to supply public goods for themsevles when the distant nation state couldn't effectively do this work for them. The direct effect with the shortage of rural public goods on the one hand led to the legitimacy failure of the grass-units and local goverment, and this reversely aggravate the shortage of rural public goods, on the other hand, it also led to the indifferece and utilitarian attitude of the farmers to their rural politics in the public life. Coincidently, television functioned as a placebo and anesthesia at this time, since the news produced by the state-owned media continuously delivered a certain information of development and flourish which made the farmers still have their faith to the future and thus made the village still have a peaceful appearance.
