Along with the development of information era,the data processing ability has been become the necessary and general mathematical ability for a future citizen to fit the daily works and social lives."The Standards of Mathematics Curriculum for Compulsory Education(Trial Draft)"issued by Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China in 2001 clearly stated that students should master the necessary skill in processing data,develop the statistics conception and understand the important role of the data to the decision-making.Therefore,it is urgent and necessary to investigate the junior middle school students'data processing ability to look for appropriate teaching ways.The author wants to use the achievements of problem representation for reference to carry out some research on the data processing ability of the junior middle school students based the representation.The paper summarizes that the junior middle school students seem more positive,single and ineffective in processing data from the point of macroscopical view.Based on these results,author gained a good deal of inspiration about statistics teaching:the construction and application of data representation should be applied into one of the most important activities in processing data;the flexible application of the multi-data representation should be encouraged;the effective selection and conversion of the data representation should be emphasized;the construction and generation of the internal-data representation shoud also be concerned.Finally,we bring forward some suggestions about mathematics teaching:teachers should guide properly to students;teachers should permeat the statistics conception to students;teachers should guide students to exchange.
