Wushu is an essence of Chinese traditional sports. It has played an important role in Chinese history. The education of Wushu has a long history in China. It has been regarded as one of the important parts of traditional sports after the founding of New China, and it was edited in Syllabus for Physical Education in College and Secondary and Primary Schools in 1961. The particular training effects and characteristics of Wushu accord with physical and psychological features of Collage Students, so it has become an important part in College physical education. Wushu has been getting a warm acceptance since it took part in the College PE course. So far, Wushu has been listed in the optional subjects in regular institutions of higher learning in Changchun City.In order to promote the deep development of Wushu in school physical education, author of this paper made both on-the-spot investigations and questionnaire surveys on present situation of Wushu education in institutions of higher learning in Changchun. According to the statistics and analyses, the author made a full understanding of the current situation, and also deeply analyzed aims, contents and methods for assessment of Wushu education, meanwhile expressed explicitly through these work. This research gives some valuable references for the the reform of the future Wushu curriculum.The means of documents, investigation, statistics are adopted in this research. 6 institutions of higher learning in Changchun City were investigated as study objects. The followings are features found by the author through the study and reunion of the investigation materials:1. In regular institutions of higher learning of Changchun, the formulating of education targets accord with the relative demands. At present, the periods are not very plenty, the developing level keeps a sense of balance.2. In the institutions concerned, simplified version of Taiji and the third revised primary Long Punch are the main teaching contents. Most of the schools, The specific theories are not taught, much less the learning of Wushu culture background information.3. The staff in the major of Wushu are mostly young. The rate of male teachers to female teachers is improper. The teachers graduated from the major of Wushu are not enough. However, most of students are satisfied with the teaching.4. Most of the students who chose Wushu as the optional subject have clear study aims, and they are satisfied with the teaching but not with the dull teaching methods. In most of the institutions concerned, learning periods are limited and the contents are dull. The equipments in arena are not qualified enough, so most of the students feel unsatisfied with it.
