The Comparative Study On The Strength Of Higher Education Between China And USA

By far,the policy of reform and opening up have been executing for 30 years. Higher education is irreplaceably crucial in building a thriving country,remaining the progress of the whole nation and society.As the improvement of our higher education does not just reflect but also significantly influence the overall national strength, Chinese government attach great importance to the higher education system.Our higher education has gone through three stages:Recovery,reformation and the leap-forward development since we started presuming the reform and opening up.At present,the overall scope of our higher education system has been highly recognized by other countries;has been counted into so called"big country in higher education". Nevertheless,being a"big country"is absolutely quite insufficient in enhancing the competitiveness of China.The quality of our higher education system has to be taking into account and our goal will be to turn our"big country"into a strong one.The United States is the most powerful country in higher education,which is fully acknowledged by others.As what we known,western countries nowadays produce the majority of the academic and practical knowledge,in particularly,the United States.Therefore,the United States chosen from all those"strong countries"in comparison with us is essentially meaningful in the practical matter.In this article, a plenty of references and comparison have been employed.We defined"the strength of higher education".Most importantly,we selectively concluded researches-related in the last several decades and scientifically designed a bright new system in the assessment of"the strength of higher education".We did a comprehensive comparison between USA and China in five aspects:scope,funding,faculty,basic research and production.The main purposes of the comparison are:to be aware of the distance and changes over these two countries during last decade better;to provide potential suggestions to reform and enhance our system better,which will absolutely benefit us in being a"strong country in higher education"in the near future.In the first part of the paper,we introduced a great amount of basic information over the systems of the higher education in both two countries.We also reviewed the impressive development and achievement of our system during the last 30 years.In the second part,we presented certain indexes which have been using commonly nationally and internationally.Subsequently,the new assessment index we created was well described.The comparison between USA and China in several aspects is the core of the article,which showed as the third section.Finally,we concluded with many useful advices and set up being"a strong country in higher education"as the destination in the near future.
