In the past over 20 years, the rise of many large-scale for-profit education group is the most expected change in the higher education area of America: these education groups set up branch schools all over the United States, even the overseas country, their enrollment maintains double-digit growth every year, their stock has been circulated in the Wall Street and has been achieved positive performance, their businesses cover not only the early education training program, but touch their hands into the traditional universities, such as take charge the poor management public universities, provide the bachelor, master, even doctoral' degree, etc. With the rising of these groups, one can question when the traditional universities and colleges have the problem of budget deficit, how dose these groups make profit? How do they guarantee the teaching quality? Who work in the schools under these groups? What kind of students should be enrolled?For answering afore-mentioned problems, the dissertation chooses the US' for-profit education groups as entry point, make an intensive study on the US' for-profit education , analysis the outer business environment and management model's characteristics in some representative education groups. Throughout the comparative study, to draw a lesson to the successful experiences of the overseas education group and offer some references to the higher education institutions in China.This thesis is composed of five parts: Introduction, the history of America for-profit education development, analysis on the management environment of Apollo Group, the management model of Apollo Group and the inspiration to the development of China's higher education institutions.The first part mainly combs and analyzes the status quo of this research, the aims, the methods and steps, the study methodology which give a foundation for following study.The second part poses the early history of America's for-profit education and the current situation of today's for-profit education groups, and then analyzes what are those major underlying forces that are helping rising for-profit education groups in the area of America's higher education.The third part and the fourth part are the focus of this thesis, for this paper choose Apollo Group as the study object, the third part explores the current development of Apollo Group, outer management environment and the exterior risks. The fourth part mainly analyzes the management model of Apollo group, which divides it into four points: accurate market segmentation and positioning, entrepreneurial operating manner, staff recruitment and curriculum development, teaching quality management system..The last part discusses the problem existed in Apollo Group and the references and inspirations to the development of China's higher education institutions.
