Language is the instrument of communication,which involves three elements:pronunciation,vocabulary and grammar.Vocabulary is the foundation of all English language skills.More and more learners devote large amount of time and energy to vocabulary learning,but they still complain that vocabulary size isn't enough and they can't avoid forgetting. Without accumulating a large number of words,the students will have obstacles to go on learning anything.When it comes to vocabulary,there're many sects in and outside China. But not all teaching approaches loaded from abroad agree with Chinese used by middle school students in China.Professor Zhang Sizhong used his own theory to create a unique method to suit our Chinese situation.He uses the following words to summarize his notion,"Proper concentration,circle over and over,reading original works,teaching in different groups."Mr.Zhang absorbed all kinds of advanced methods which he showed their strong points and hid their weaknesses.The principles of this method are to guide the teachers not only teach the students how to learn,but also offer the moral education.What's more,he uses the psychology theory to improve the students' motivation.He also stressed that both the intelligence factors and non-intelligence factors are very important during acquiring knowledge.He adopted the proper diversion and concentration to reach the high aim throughout the teaching period.With using this kind of method,the students feel relaxed,they don't have heavy burden.The methods totally reflect some regular pattern of students' study and their psychology after concentrating the system of the pronunciation,vocabulary and grammar.Meanwhile, Confidence has been set up to learn faster and more.In fact,it is obvious that his theory is very applicable for the Chinese students.The aim of the thesis is to do the experiment using Zhang Sizhong's principles to prove that proper vocabulary teaching and learning strategies will facilitate vocabulary learning.According to his principles,the writer has carried out two-year experiment in two parallel classes in order to compare the effect of the traditional approach and Zhang Sizhong's principles.The experiment results are as follows:1.The experiment proves that zhang Sizhong's principles are more effective than the traditional approach in improving students' ability of remembering the vocabulary.Proper concentration can teach the students how to memorize the vocabulary scientifically,so that the students can master a new way to enlarge their vocabulary amount.2.After using one of the principles circle over and over,we can teach the students how to memorize the vocabulary.Meanwhile,we can improve their active attitude to memorize words and help them to create a good habit of psychology advantages so as to stimulate them to study faster and much more.3.During the whole process of the experiment,the students could cooperate with the teacher and react the circumstances that they have mastered.What's more,they really realize the meaning and pleasure of learning English as well as improve their ability of memorizing the vocabularies.Therefore,it is well worth spreading and applying these principles in teaching vocabulary in junior middle school.
