Realizing mathematics education modernization is a common target which was pursued by all over the world. Both China and America conducted mathematics education modernization movement at the end of the 1950'and produced a profound influence on mathematics education reform from then on.In this thesis, a main question is : What was the similarities and differences in middle school mathematics education modernization between China and America at the end of the 1950'?What was the reference and enlightenment for mathematics education reform and the process of mathematics education modernization?The research mainly include three questions as follows: What was the similarities and differences in textbooks between China and America? What was the similarities and differences in experimental results between China and America? What was the enlightenment for mathematics education reform in China?Document ,comparison and historical researeh are adopted to in this research.The research compares the mathematics education modernization between China and America from background, textbooks, experimental results and so on.And then the author analysis the similarities and differences in above faces.The Nine Years of Consistent Mathematics Experiment Textbooks written by Beijing Normal University and the the Unity of Modern Mathematics are the chief materials in textbooks comparison. The textbooks comparison mainly include write concept, layout, presentation, mathematical thought , main features and so on.Through comparisons,the author put forward some suggestions as follows:1. Mathematics education modernization must has a reasonable value orientation.2. Middle school mathematics teaching material construction must3. pay more attention to students,knowledge and society.4. Strengthen the study in mathematics curriculum theory .5. Properly handle the relationship between ideal courses and implement courses. 6. Pay more attention to the teachers'role and value in curriculum reform.
