The Investigation Of The Situation Of Psychology Consulting Institution Of A University

Objective To investigate the work and the problems of psychological consulting institutions in universities and to give some useful recommendations to make these psychological consulting institutions more effective by studying the general status, reasons, the number of clients and the differences between men and women about all student-clients in a psychological consulting center in a medical university.Methods A total of 1199 students who came to the psychological consulting center and asked for help from psychologists from 2002 to 2008 were investigated and analyses retrospectively.Results The number of female students coming to the psychological consulting center is more than that of male students (1.26:1). The main issues were associated with learning (17.3%), love affairs (16.4%) and interpersonal relationship (12.2%). Some students were sent to a psychiatric hospital for treatment or suspended from university because of depression(6.4%), anxiety(5.1%), obsessive-compulsive(5.2%), schizophrenic disorder(0.8%); With the university systematically carrying out mental health education, the number of student-clients has increased year by year, but few students took serial consultations.Conclusion There are some problems in psychological consulting institutions in universities. Psychological consulting institutions should enhance the publicity of mental health and pay close attention to depression,anxiety,obsessive-compulsive,schizophrenic disorder,and improve the quality of psychologists.
