| With the rapid advancement of all kinds of information, we have to acquire a lot of information in as short time as possible. So it becomes a must for us to have effective reading skills so as to digest the needed knowledge. Esp. for the high school students who will attend the national entrance examination, how to get effective fast reading ability becomes an urgent task. The Standard English test scores 150 points, Reading Comprehension and Cloze cover 75 points, accounting for half of the score. In view of this phenomenon, various schools have taken measures to share at least one to two times every week for reading practice. Especially let students in the limited time achieve the fastest and the most accurate reading effect, namely, fast reading training. Combination of exercises taught to the students reading the obstacles as well as related skills will not only help the students pass the college entrance examination, but also has great significance for future study. If we can have Effective fast reading skills, reading comprehension and reading speed will be greatly improved. The English syllabus requests that the high school students should be able to read 50-70 words every minute, it requests students to read independently the materials in which the new words are no more than over 3%. The materials include relevant personal biography, story, essays with relevant social culture, historiography designation etc.But actually, most of the students can not reach this goal, there are some factors which obstruct the formation and the development of this ability, according to the writer's observation and inquisition, reading request from the new syllabus for students of Grade one is "the ability of read independently the materials which are less difficult than the course book. Students can understand the material in which the new words are no more than 3% in a passage and the speed of reading is 20-40 phrases every minute." And reading request requests to the students of Grade two rises to 30-50 single phrases. The new syllabus asks the students of Grade two reading speed is 60-70 single phrases every minute, the rate of correct understanding is 70% and the request for the students of Grade three is 70-80 single phrases every minute. These obstacles include limited vocabulary, poor understanding of context and poor understanding of long and hard sentences. To get rid of these obstacles, we have to have effective fast reading skills. By adopting these methods, we are looking forward to gaining the goal: improving students' fast reading ability. In order to prove my hypothesis, (that is: to improve high school students' fast reading ability by adopting effective fast reading skills.) I design a one-year experiment. At the same time, another hypothesis, (that is: students' fast reading ability has nothing with genders.) is also proved in the experiment. |
