Fast reading is a method to efficiently receive and pick up usable informations from reading materials. This method trains readers’ abilities of fast acquiring and understanding informations. The fast reading ability is a very important ability in the era of "information explosion" and schools should take the responsibility to train their students to read fast, especially in upper primary period which is a golden time to develop children’s reading ability. According to a series of research into the students’reading ability, fast reading school training and teacher guiders, it appears that students’fast reading ability is far less than satisfied. They still need to read more and some more training in improving reading speed should be applied in school education as well. However now, this kind of training is rare in most schools and teachers know very little (or even don’t know) about fast reading training. But more and more extra-curriculum study centres are more proficient in fast reading training. They have developed their unique curriculum and various of training methods (intensive training, regular training and "student-coach" training method). Therefore, they have got good effect in changing students’reading speed, efficiency and motivation. The experience of extra-curriculum study centres is an example for primary schools to apply fast reading training and improve students’ fast reading ability.
