In March 2004, the document Decision to Vigorously Promote Bilingual Education was jointly issued by the Party Committee of XJ Uygur Autonomous Region and the People's Government of the Region, putting forward some concrete requirements for the bilingual education. In the document, the policy of co-schooling Han nationality and ethnic minorities was highlighted and emphasized. In this background, governments at all levels in the Region made relevant regulations and policies to implement the document. The co-schooling work entered a new phase of development. The co-schooling Han nationality and ethnic minorities as a special school form in ethnic minority areas, on the one hand, is to promote Chinese language level for minority students, on the other hand, it creates an environment that can communicate and learn from each other for Han-teachers and minority-teachers, which is to achieve the purpose of learning from each other and promoting each other, and then contributing to the professional development of minority- teachers and Han-teachers. In view of this, the study took co-schooling Han nationality and ethnic minorities M middle school as cases, studied the present situation of ethnic minorities teachers'professional development by methods of deep interview, observation and anthological references. This study makes a survey on changes of minority- teachers'professional development in the implementation process of co-schooling work in M middle school, the ways in the course of development, and the factors for promoting or hindering these changes. The paper is composed of four parts:Part one is the general introduction, which formulates the study background and the reasons of choosing this topic, theories and methods involved, and a brief introduction to the field survey.Part two, based on findings of the field survey, packs up and classified the changes taking place in the process of co-schooling work in M middle school. Those various changes include those in teaching attitude, teaching ideas, inner study needs, professional knowledge, self-reflection and behaviors in teaching .And on this basis,the research analyzes means and methods of promoting minorities teachers'professional development in the course.Part three, expounds factors for promoting or hindering minority-teachers'professional development from features of system, schools and individuals.Part four, with regard to the above, analyses the present situation and problems in minority-teachers'professional development in the co-schooling Han nationality and ethnic minorities and try to put forward some positive advice.
