The new round of curriculum reform strengthens the importance of capacity-building and more concerns about the differences between urban and rural areas.Chemistry is a subject that closely linked to the spatial ability.The existing research results show that:it is relevant between spatial ability and students with high academic performance of chemistry. Therefore,the research about the differences between urban and rural chemical spatial ability is useful,In the basis of studing a large number of documents,this study regards the differences between urban and rural chemical spatial ability as the main contents.The aim is understanding if there are differences between urban and rural chemical spatial ability of middle school students and what differenes are? As well as the reasons for such differences and how to narrow the gap.Then all students to promote chemical learning ability.It is useful to develop the balance of urban and rural areas.This study used a method of questionnaire survey and interview research combined.Questionnaire focused on spatial ability,such as chemical graph characterization and the mental rotation of chemical model of atomic and molecular.Questionnaire included three aspects of spatial ability:the capacity of spatial relations,spatial perception ability,spatial imagination.The study selected seven high schools in Zhejiang Province,there are Zhenhai Middle School,Tongxiang High Middle School,Huzhou No.2 Middle School,Ningbo No.4 Middle School,Haiyan High Middle School,Tongxiang Maodun Middle School,Shaoxin Jianhu Middle School.Each school choses two natural classes,for a total of 14 classes.Questionnaires used the analysis of SPSS 11.5 and obtained the following conclusions:1.There are differences between urban and rural students about chemical spatial ability.2.City students have more chemical spatial ability than the students in rural arear.3.The chemical abilities of spatial relationships,spatial perception ability is related significantly between urban students and rural students,but the space imagination is not significant.4.Spatial ability and students from rural or urban is related significantly.5.The students' spatial ability need further enhance.Through analyse,the reasons of the conclusions are the differences about the attention, contents,metheds,environment and investment of family education in urban and rural areas. As well as the differences about the conditions,the teachers in urban and rural areas through compulsory education.Through interviews with teachers can see that the students now are considered to be low spatial ability.But they do not train them systematically and consciously.Finally,the research presents the metheds how to improve the students' spatial ability,such as using models,media,games and an instruction design.
