Spatial imagination ability is an indispensable part of mathematical abilities.In China's high school mathematics teaching program,from the traditional three mathematical abilities to the present visual imagination,it always contains students'spatial imagination.The significance of the spatial imagination is self-evident.It's an important means to spot,analyze and solve problems,and it's the thinking foundation of exploring and forming thread of the argument,carrying out mathematical reasoning and constructing an abstract structure.Therefore,it is necessary to understand high school students' spatial imagination ability in mathematics.Based on the above background,the author mainly studies the following four questions:the mastery of the ability of high school students' spatial imagination in mathematics;the development trend of students' spatial imagination with the growth of their age;the existence of gender differences in spatial imagination;and the weak links of the students and the coping strategies of teachers according to the results of the test.Through the sorting and analysis of relevant literature,the concept of spatial imagination ability is divided,and the connotation and extension of spatial imagination ability are clearly defined.On that basis,the content of the test of mathematical space imagination ability is determined by the combination of the mathematics curriculum standards,the textbooks and the interviews with first-line teachers.In this study,314 students from different grades of a high school in Xiamen,Fujian Province,were selected as the research object,and the development rules of the students were analyzed and summarized according to their test scores.The results show that,with the growth of age,high school students' spatial imagination demonstrates a rising trend,the growth from senior one to senior two is faster,while it tends to be stable from senior two to senior three.In the various requirements of spatial imagination,students' development is uneven and the speed of their development is not consistent.For requirement one and two,most students can master well,but for requirements three and four,the students' performance is ordinary.Besides,the spatial imagination has gender differences.The overall level of the boys is obviously better than the girls.Although to some extent,the male students have the advantages in some aspects of spatial imagination,but the gap is narrowing and the advantage is weakening with the increase of age,and it may disappear in the end.Finally,based on the weakness links of students in the study,three teaching suggestions are given.
