Spatial ability is one of the three basic ability of human, and is the basic element of cultivating students’innovation and practical ability. Geography course plays an irreplaceable role in the area of cultivating students’spatial ability. However, considering the current situation, there is no any systemic research about senior high school students’ geography spatial ability in China by now. In generally, the students of geo-spatial ability to decide the geography learning and geography question solving efficiency. So the systemic studying and exploring on geo-spatial ability has value of the research topic in geographical teaching area.At first,this article explored the related theories on space ability in order to analyzes and summaries the meaning, classification of geo-spatial ability,establish the theoretical foundation. And combining spatial ability-building requirements of geography, spatial ability was defined and classified. Questionnaire was prepared on this basis. Students of grade one from HuanXian three middle school were investigated in this questionnaire survey. A total of180questionnaires were sent out, recycling178, of which172were valid questionnaires, included80boys and92girls.Through statistical analysis of the questionnaires. The results showed that (1)currently, geography spatial ability of Huanxian senior high school students are low.(2) there is significant gender difference in spatial ability of high school students, for boys is superior to girls.(3) spatial ability of high school students have something with school address, the village student is superior to the urban student.(4) spatial ability of high school students have something with teaching environment, the key school student is superior to the ordinary school student.According to the research results,this article analyzed the reasons for the formation of such status,and put forward tactics according to status. In addition,this part points out limitations of this study.The whole paper includes three components, the introduction, the main text and the conclusion. The main text is composed by review, theoretical research and practical research,following the technical line from theory to practice.
