Carrying out the study of teachers' quality of work life(QWL) has very important theoretical and practical significance for the stability of teachers, the improvement of quality of education as well as the development of educational cause. However, the empirical studies in this regard in China are very few and the native measurement tools are more lacking. In view of this, referencing the research on QWL at home and abroad , this study developed the questionnaire of QWL for primary and secondary school teachers , conducted the present situation investigation of QWL for primary and secondary school teachers and then discussed the influencing factors of QWL among primary and secondary school teachers.Firstly, based on the results of open-ended questionnaire, interviews, literature review and expert evaluation, this study determined initially the structure of QWL of elementary and middle schools teachers, and formed the original questionnaire of QWL of the elementary and middle schools teachers.Secondly, Using item analysis and exploratory factor analysis, the formal questionnaire of QWL of the elementary and middle schools teachers was constructed. Thirdly, we used another sample to make the confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and the hierarchical regression analysis, examined the reliability and validity of the official questionnaire. Finally, in the applied research , we carried on the variance analysis and the t-test to the official questionnaire data, discussed the situation of contemporary elementary and middle schools teachers' QWL and the influence of demographic variables on the elementary and middle schools teachers' QWL.The results of this study were mainly as follows: (1)The questionnaire of elementary and middle school teachers' QWL contains six factors: school condition, welfare and treatment, leadership and management, colleague relationship, amateur life, and teaching characteristic. The questionnaire consists of 30 items, school condition consists of 5 items, welfare and treatment consists of 5 items, leadership and management consists of 7 items, colleague relationship consists of 4 items, amateur life consists of 4 items, and teaching characteristic consists of 5 items.(2) The reliability analysis shows that the internal consistency reliability (Cronbach'sα) of the questionnaire is .91,the half-split reliability is .85,and two-week test-retest reliability is .81.And the questionnaire has good content validity, construct validity and criterion-related validity. The results show the design of the questionnaire is reasonable and reliable ,and the questionnaire can be used to be a instrument for measuring QWL of elementary and middle school teachers.(3) The level of colleague relationship, leadership and management ,school condition and teaching characteristic is relatively high , whereas the level of welfare and treatment and amateur life is relatively low.(4)The dimensions of QWL of elementary and middle school teachers have significant differences in marital status, age, teaching age, location of the school , education level, job role,school type and area ,but no significant differences in gender.
