Objective To study the prevalence of neurosis and its influencing factors in poor undergraduates, then to attempt to establish a forecasting neurosis occurring mathematical model, and to provide scientific bases for the poor undergraduates' mental health education and mental health care reference.Methods By using SCL - 90, EPQ, ASLEC, SCQ and SSRS, 653 poor undergraduates with the bachelor of medicine ,media, education or other non-medical professions, ranging from sophomore to third grades, were chosen from 3 Jinan colleges to complete the survey. While random 700 non-poor undergraduates were random chosen to participate in the survey altogether; and invalid questionnaires were removed. Furthermore, poor undergraduates will get 593 copies of valid questionnaires, while non-poor students get 656 valid questionnaires, 92.31 percents of which were efficient, 586 boys and 663 girls included.Results The prevalence of neurosis of was 13. 3%. The risk factors were nervousness, personal relationship, a total score of negative life events, self reproach and illusion while the protective factors were introversion and extroversion, family member relationship, support utilization degree and objective support.Conclusions The prevalence of neurosis is higher in poor undergraduates than the common, which should arose concern of all sectors of the community. Second, the university and the community should provide a stable, orderly and conducive environment to the healthy development of undergraduates so that undergraduates love and support each other to form a good habit to reduce all the anxiety, tension and other emotional factors that are bad; undergraduates themselves should consider through their own physical and mental condition in order to reduce the incidence of various diseases, struggle through their own efforts to enhance their own value and to adapt to fierce competition for the early community. Third, to learn more and parents should pay attention to student mental health education, or primary schools start from the popularity of psychological knowledge. To improve the quality of students and to deal with the psychological ability to develop good character, to learn how to correctly understand and evaluate themselves, to raise the bearing capacity of the psychological and social adaptability. Fourth, colleges and universities should strengthen the health of poor undergraduates' mental health education and take psychological counseling through the creation of mental health education, or make mental health elective seminars to help poor students recognize their own psychological characteristics, form an active coping style, with a good self-regulation, continuously improve the tolerance of difficulties and setbacks, and enhance the level of mental health. V. poor students affected by the economic situation of their own, relatively strong sense of inferiority, depression, severe psychological, interpersonal sensitivity, which will greatly affect their surrounding environment with good contacts and exchanges, thereby undermine the community to support the positive role of the individual, the Health and poverty issues should be the psychological counseling and mental health education a priority and difficulty.
